Solid construction, quiet operation
By R Sundhagen
Two day shipping is a misnomer - it was 2 days to the third party delivery company, then I had to wait a week for the delivery company to have a truck with a lift bed scheduled in my area. The delivery agent brought the box inside my living room. Install was a piece of cake, with a second person holding the console up while I connected 3 wires. Everything was functional out of the box, except that the running deck is not level (2 inches high in front) and the rear feet are only slightly adjustable (and no instructions in the user's manual on adjusting them). Too bad I had to contact customer service on the first day of use. Worse is that Sole does NOT respond to email contact. But they were quick to answer the phone, and promised a technician would be at my house within a week. A week later, the technicians arrived to say that the rear feet are at their max extension and we could try placing coasters under them to get the deck to be level. So the advertised 0-degree incline is not actually possible without bracing/propping up the deck.
I use this treadmill strictly for running, averaging 25 miles per week at speeds from 6-10 mph. Some of the console features seem oddly lacking for a treadmill at this price. The distance reads only to the tenth of a mile, not hundredths, effectively rounding down all your distances (unless you can estimate hundredths by portion of the track icon that's filled in). And the time reads only 2 digits for minutes, then flips back to zero after 99 minutes. This might not matter to you unless you spend 2-3 hours on the machine for long workouts. This treadmill takes much longer to speed up and slow down than a gym treadmill; this makes interval training very different. There's about a 20-second lag between the speed you punch in and the belt reaching that programmed speed. While the speed has both a numeric display and a round spedometer-like graphic, both of them read only what you've punched in, not what the belt is actually turning, and you get no indication when the belt has reached that programmed speed (all speeds in the meantime are a mystery). The quick speed buttons of 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 9, and 12 may be convenient for walkers, but runners will still spend much of their time pressing and holding the speed up/down buttons. The fan has only one speed (weak). The speakers are adequate for my iPod, but there is no volume control on the console, so you have to be able to reach the input device to change it.

Good, solid machine. Worth the money.
By Abby J.
Got this about two months ago and it's great. I use it daily and walk 3-10 miles a day on it. I don't run due to a knee issue so I can't speak to how it is for running but for walking I love it. I recommend paying the extra money for assembly if you don't have a hubby to put this together for you. It is very heavy and the boxes it came in alone took up my whole trashcan. Also, the delivery guy showed up ALONE and had my husband not been there I have no idea how he would have gotten it off the truck.
There are two features that drew me to this machine: the folding aspect and the ability to move it if needed. We didn't want a machine that was going to take up the basement when we had guests over. It does fold up pretty easily though be aware that even folded this thing is 6 feet tall. And yes, you can move it but it is heavy (despite how easy they make it look in the promotional videos)and on my shag carpet it definitely does not glide. That being said in the rare occasions that we have to get it out of the way it IS possible and made this machine a good fit for us.
We have little kids and little dogs so letting the ramp down after it's been folded was a concern for me. It's pretty heavy and I was worried it would crush someone. Not gonna happen. The ramp comes down on hydrolics so it's a very controlled decent with the last two feet or so slowing down to a crawl so that there is virtually no chance of someone getting caught under there. Very safe. Also, the release for the ramp is at the top when the machine is folded and it takes adult strength to bring it down so there is little chance of a small child releasing it. Also the machine will not start without the key (the thing you clip to your shirt that will automatically shut off the machine should you fall) so the kids can't get on it and start pressing buttons and get hurt. Just make sure to take out the key and put it someplace safe. And don't lose it or you can't use the machine!
It is a sturdy machine- not flimsy and light weight like what you might get with a cheaper machine which I like. The ramp gives a little when you walk so there is less impact on your knees. It's pretty quiet too. I walk while I watch TV so that was important. The fan is weak but better than nothing. In my experience a weak fan is pretty typical for a treadmill. My favorite features are all the storage compartments. There are two holders on the top of the unit, both big enough to fit a super gulp cup. Then there is a bar underneath that has two more cup holders and a couple of additional trays for storage. You can plug in your phone or IPod and the sound system is pretty decent. You can really rock out on the thing. There is no volume control however and volume has to be adjusted on your device but there is a holder right next to the plug so it's convenient.
There are numerous ways to adjust speed. There are speed and incline buttons on both the main console and the arms of the unit and buttons that will take you right to any speed or incline. If you pause the unit to take a break it will hold your workout for a decent amount of time before restarting. I want to say at least 10 minutes. Good if you have to stop to use the bathroom, deal with kids, answer the door ect.
Things I don't like:
1. The plastic siding of the unit is very thin and cracked on both sides during assembly. It was purely cosmetic and has no bearing on the function of the machine and I have not contacted the company to have it replaced so I can't vouch for how or if they would fix it. Just take care when handling the sides.
2. When you hit 1,000 calories or 100 minutes the counter goes back to zero. If you're in for a long haul workout that makes it hard to track your progress.
3. If you accidently pull out the emergency cord that stops the machine (the one that you clip to your shirt incase you fall off) your whole workout will erase. I've never fallen off but I've jumped off with the clip on my shirt and accidently unplugged it a few times. Even if you pop it right back in the history of your workout will be gone.
All in all I'm very happy with this! Just on a side note for those of you who are looking to start walking/running at home, I have lost 12 pounds since I got this machine. I was very out of shape and about 30 pounds overweight. When I started walking my shins hurt so badly I had to walk slowly, I was out of breath, I couldn't handle the maximum incline. Two months later and I spend 30 minutes walking at 3.8 on maximum incline, no sweat. Going to a gym was not really possible for me and having this available whenever I get the time to work out has been a huge success for me. My best friend lost 30 pounds doing the same thing. If you are serious about using it, spend the money and get a decent machine like this one. I don't know that I would have spent so much time on it if I didn't love it so much. I hope this review helps!

Incredible!
By V. Ramirez
Heavy, solid, superior quality. This machine has unlimited possibilities. it has really tested our abilities and quickly raised our fitness threshold.
We wish it had one little selfish perk; a volume control button on the console. When you're trotting away, it's hard to adjust the I-pod.
THIS MACHINE IS WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!
